LOUISE GREEN Equine Artist

Louise Green

Born in Newcastle NSW Australia, Louise Green's lifelong passion for drawing horses began at about 3 years of age.
She spent her school age years in Auckland, New Zealand taking Art as a subject at High School - entering a sketch of her first horse at the age of 13 in an

Equine magazine Art competition, winning 2nd prize.
Whilst still at school Louise began selling sketches of horses rendered in 6B pencil & oil pastels.
Later on she progressed to coloured pencil.
Working with racehorses as a teenager after leaving school gave Louise further inspiration for her drawings.

Returning to Australia in 1980 Louise attended a part-time course at Newcastle TAFE, NSW in Showcard, Ticketwriting & Calligraphy, which led to some freelance work.
For many years Louise pursued her dream of breeding, showing & riding Paint & Quarter Horses in Western ring events.

In 1992 she moved to the Mid North Coast of NSW & joined the local Art societies.
Louise also attended classes for private tuition in oil painting.
Enrolling in a short course for soft pastels she found that this medium was perfect for capturing the beauty & reality of her equine subjects.
In 2002 Louise gave up the horse show circuit to focus on her Art.
Entering her work in local exhibitions has led to winning numerous awards & gaining many commissions.
Inspiration for her paintings comes from a variety of sources - sometimes dreams & other times from the beauty that surrounds her whilst living on a farm in a rural landscape - in the unique flora & fauna of the native Australian bush, a fascination for magic & fantasy & her love for all things equine.

Her paintings have gone to private collectors in Australia, New Zealand, France & recently sales overseas to USA.
Louise's other passion is nature photography & she prefers to work from photographs for her commissions, either taken by herself or supplied by clients.
Recently she was selected as a finalist in the Lower North Coast Photographic Art Prize, held at the Manning Regional Gallery, Taree NSW in June 2008. Group exhibitions include:

Louise has been the recipient of over 70 awards, including Champion & Reserve Champion Painting at Taree, Comboyne & Camden Haven shows as well as numerous People's Choice prizes.
She lives on a beef cattle farm on the Mid North Coast of NSW with her partner, their dog & 6 horses & is currently working towards her first exhibition in 2010 & gaining representation in USA.
